British-tourist-fallsSYDNEY, Australia – A tourist from the UK has died in Australia in an accident after falling down a cliff while trying to click a picture.

Gareth Jones, 25, was killed when he slipped during the ‘trip of a lifetime’ with friends at North Head peninsula near Sydney.

According to reports he climbed over a fence to get a better view of the sunrise at about 6.45am when he slipped and fell 300ft to the floor.

Acting Inspector Belinda Caddy said: ‘To me it’s just a tragic accident and obviously all our thoughts are with his family.

‘A young man walking towards the edge of a cliff and slipping off. A tragic accident and we feel for all the people who were there.’

It is believed that two of his friends climbed down to Gareth’s body but when they got there he was unresponsive.

Inspector Nigel Taylor told reporters that he and his friends were sitting near the edge of the cliff before Gareth got up and slipped. His body was later retrieved by a police helicopter.
