Carroll, Cabrera Appointed to Convention Center Corporation Board

San-Diego-Convention-Center-150x128The San Diego City Council appointed Candace M. Carroll and Gil Cabrera to the San Diego Convention Center Corporation’s board of directors today. The two will join a seven-member board that sets policy for the Corporation.  The San Diego Convention Center Corporation is a public benefit corporation created by the City of San Diego to exclusively manage and operate the 2.6 million sf waterfront facility. Now celebrating nearly 25 years of success, the San Diego Convention Center has generated $22.9 billion in regional economic impact, $430.3 million in tax revenues and supports 12,500 jobs countywide.

 

“We welcome these two outstanding community leaders to the board,” said Nico Ferraro, board chair. “The Corporation will benefit tremendously from their expertise.” Ms. Carroll is a highly-regarded appellate practitioner with more than 30 years of experience handling appeals in federal, state and bankruptcy appellate courts. Her cases have included a wide-range of subjects including contract disputes, insurance and indemnity issues, wrongful termination, intellectual property, personal injury and complex family law matters.

 

Ms. Carroll has taught seminars in advanced legal writing at Duke University School of Law and the University of San Diego School of Law and currently supervises a Ninth Circuit Legal Clinic at the University of San Diego School of Law. She is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the California Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and several other circuits including the United States District Court for the Central and Southern Districts.

 

In 2009, she received the Duke University School of Law’s Charles S. Rhyne Award, given to an alumnus whose career as a practicing attorney has demonstrated the highest standards of professionalism and personal integrity. Ms. Carroll previously served as the president of the San Diego County Bar Association, the president of California Women Lawyers and currently chairs Senator Barbara Boxer’s Judicial Appointments Committee for the Southern District of California.

 
Ms. Carroll earned her Bachelor of Business Administration with distinction from George Washington University and her Juris Doctor with honors from Duke University School of Law. She is a life member of the Duke University School of Law Board of Visitors and serves on the California Western Law School Council of Visitors.
