China to buy 70 Airbus jets worth $10bn

airbusChina’s state owned Purchasing Agency will buy 70 jets from Airbus as a deal has been signed between them which is worth more than $10bn (£6bn).

The deal was supposed to be signed earlier but was kept on hold due to differences between outside countries and the EU for carbon emission tax on flight.

The breakthrough came during a state visit to France by the Chinese president, Xi Jinping. The order includes 27 long-haul A330s and 43 smaller A320 planes.

China has signed an agreement with France of 10 years which will allow Airbus to build planes till 2025 in the northern city of Tianjin.

Earlier, Airbus’ helicopter division announced a deal to provide 1,000 civilian helicopters to China over the next 20 years. The order includes 27 long-hauls Airbus A330s

Targeting the growing markets of China the biggest economies of Europe, Germany, France and the UK are doing their best to improve trade relations with China.

Last year, France had a trade deficit with China of about 26bn euros (£22bn), which accounts for approximately 40% of France’s total foreign trade deficit.

 

The French President Francois Hollande has expressed the need for a rebalanced trade link between the countries.

 

A number of agreements have been signed between the two countries in areas of nuclear, financial and automotive sectors.

Aerospace already accounts for 29% of French exports to China. A fifth of Airbus’s global production takes place on the Chinese mainland.
