high-speed-Malaysia-Singapore-rail-linkA new high- speed rail (HSR) line linking China to Dandong, which borders North Korea and Shenyang, capital of northeast China’s Liaoning Province, was opened, China’s Xinhua news agency reported.
Running at a speed of 250 km/h, the Shenyang-Dandong Highway Railway will cut the train-travel time between the two cities to about 1 hour from 3 and a half hours, according to the Shenyang Railway Administration.
Officials with the Liaoning provincial development and reform commission say the HSR will facilitate travel, unlock economic potential and enhance China-North Korea transportation capability.
In May, a train tour to North Korea via Dandong was launched to cater to the Chinese tourists’ rising interest in the neighboring country.
Over 10,000 people visit North Korea via Dandong, the largest Chinese city bordering North Korea, each year.
China is the main trading partner of North Korea and has taken the regional lead in seeking to curb its neighbor’s nuclear intentions.
