China has decided to use its strong hand in stopping cheap vacation tours which force tourists to expensive shops expecting purchase.
Tourists are taken to expensive shops and are forced to buy expensive articles from shops. This is a way of extracting money that was saved in the cheap tour offered by tour companies that had allowed trips at low cost.
Incidents of these kinds have become so rampant that often there are reports of conflicts between tour conductors and tourists.
The National Tourism Administration of China said that it will impose fine on tourists who sign up for the discount trip.
Earlier fines on the travel companies did not reduce the number of tourists falling prey to these messy agreements. The Chinese officials are hopeful that fining tourists may stop this kind of a discount travel.
The death of a 54 year old Chinese mainland tourist in Hong Kong made the officials sit up. The man was beaten to death outside a jewelery shop a week ago. Two of his fellow tourists refused to make a purchase and the man who died was trying to calm their fight. He died of heart attack while being beaten.
In many other countries, including the United States, tour buses commonly stop at “tourist traps.” These shops focus on selling goods to vacationers not from the area. The goods are often over-priced and lower quality.
