According to WTTC communications director, Toby Nicol, China is the world’s second-largest tourism economy.
The industry generates 65 million jobs and contributes 9 percent of China’s GDP. He also said, “That is why we are holding our global summit in Hainan.
It is a major tourism region of a major tourism country,” adding that the summit, the biggest annual gathering of travel and tourism industry leaders, provides Hainan with an opportunity to demonstrate its tourism assets.
In 2012, a report released by WTTC predicts that tourism expenditure in Hainan would boost by an annual average of over 10 percent for the next 10 years.
Assistant governor of Hainan and director of its tourism development commission, Lu Zhiyuan, said that the summit would promote Hainan and China as a tourism destination.
