Christmas at 16 New Street – Jersey

jersey-logoThe National Trust for Jersey is inviting you to step back in time to enjoy the magical Christmas of times past, amidst traditional decorations, music and candlelight. Soak up the festive atmosphere, have a taste of period recipes in the working Georgian kitchen and come along to one of our special events.

The house will be open from 10:00-17:00 each Saturday from 30th November – 21st December, and from 16:00-20:00 on Thursday evenings from 28th November – 19th December.

The following special events will also be taking place.

Traditional (Green) Father Christmas at 16 New Street
Long before the impact of 20th century advertising, the legendary figure of Father Christmas was often portrayed wearing a green coat lined with fur, representing the coming of spring. This year the kindly old gentleman, adorned with a crown of holly, ivy and mistletoe, will be asking the children if they have been ‘bad or good’ and rewarding them with a gift to take home. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Sounds of Christmas
7th December, Caesarean Bell Ringers at 11:00 and 12:00
14th December, Jersey Festival Choir at 12:00 and 13:30
21st December, No Strings Attached Quartet at 11:15 and 12:15

Candlelit Tours
Revel in the magical festive atmosphere of this glorious Regency property brought to life by costumed actors. Have a glass of spiced cider and a mince pie by the fireside afterwards.

Late Night Shopping at 16 New Street
The museum shop will be open each Thursday evening from 16:00-20:00 from November 28th to 19th December, selling a wide selection of imaginative gifts, greetings cards and wrapping paper that are perfect for Christmas. Freshly roasted chestnuts will be for sale and visitors will be offered complimentary seasonal refreshments. Please note that the museum itself will be closed on Thursday evenings.
