ttfThe start of construction on the Moreton Bay Rail Link is great news for residents in the growth areas north of Brisbane, according to peak national industry body, Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF).
TTF Chief Executive Ken Morrison said the project has reached a critical milestone.
“The Moreton Bay Rail Link has been under discussion for more than 100 years so to finally see works begin is a great result for Moreton Bay,” Mr Morrison said.
“With the area’s population forecast to grow by almost 40 per cent within 20 years, having public transport infrastructure in place will be critical to ensuring its future mobility and productivity.
“Rail services will revolutionise the area, improving resident amenity, fostering investment and attracting businesses and jobs.
“Congratulations to Moreton Bay Regional Council on its persistence and success in convincing the Queensland government of the critical need for this project.
“Congratulations are also due to the Newman government for recognising the benefits this project will deliver, not only to Moreton Bay but to the wider South East Queensland region.
“As one of Australia’s fastest growing regions, investment in public transport is essential to combating congestion and supporting economic growth in South East Queensland.
“Combine the Moreton Bay Rail Link with the train and bus tunnel that will provide additional rail capacity across the Brisbane River and reduce bus congestion on surface roads in the Brisbane CBD and this shows the Newman government is taking South East Queensland’s future transport needs seriously.
“Congestion in our cities is hampering economic growth, so projects like these are vital to their future liveability and productivity.”
