Community invited to find out more about Cornton crossing plans

210Network Rail will be hosting two information events to give local residents the opportunity to find out more about plans to replace the Cornton level crossings with a new road bridge over the railway.

The project team will be available between 3.30pm and 8:00pm on Monday, June 27, at the Allan Centre in Bridge of Allan and between 3.30pm and 8pm on Tuesday, June 28, in Cornton Community Centre.

The information events will be a chance for Network Rail to tell residents about the plans – how the project will benefit the local community and improve rail safety – and an opportunity for locals to ask questions about the proposed changes.

Network Rail is seeking to close the existing vehicle and foot crossings at Cornton and replace them with a road bridge, incorporating pedestrian and cycle access, before the railway through Stirling is electrified in 2019.

Faster, quieter electric trains will increase the safety risk at the Cornton crossings and they have been identified for closure as a result.A Network Rail spokesman said: “Level crossings are the biggest external risk to rail safety and a leading cause of fatal accidents on the railway.

“The electrification of the railway through Stirling – and the faster, quieter trains it will introduce to the line – significantly changes the level of risk at the Cornton crossings.“The new bridge we are proposing will provide a safer way for members of the public to cross the railway and we’d like to encourage the community to come to these events, where they can find out more about our proposals.”
