Piao, who had opened an emergency exit doorChinese authorities had recently declared that people who had displayed bad behaviour abroad and put the country’s name in shame will be dealt with severely.

The woman identified as Piao, who had opened an emergency exit door of a Seoul-bound Asiana Airlines plane while it was moving was the first person in the list to face criminal charges.

The trail took place of the 11.05.15 in northeastern Jilin province of Yanji city is where the incident took place on February 12. She was indicted for putting public life in jeopardy.

Her actions delayed the flight for four hours causing losses up to 34,000 Yuan (P244, 000). Earlier media reports had said that the door handle was mistakenly lifted by Piao.

This is however a common occurrence in China and there are over a dozen cases reported in the cities of Kunming, Chongqing, Nanjing and Shenzhen. But since Piao’s case has been deemed as serious as the incident took place when the plane was moving.

The other offenders received punishments including a 5,000 yuan fine, administrative detention of up to 15 days, and 35,000 yuan in compensation to the airline. If Piao is convicted she will have to face about 10 years of jail.

The Civil Aviation Administration feels that taking severe action against such offenders will send a deterrent message and others will fear to behave in this way in the future. These actions hurt aviation safety and cause negative social impact.

Passengers cannot vent their frustrations over delays an display such impatient and callous behaviour.

China is determined to revamp its image and had decided to make tourism laws tougher and improve the country’s image with positive moves and boost domestic tourism and inbound tourism.

Among the four people who have been blacklisted , a teenager who climbed on top of a statue of a revolutionary soldier will be barred from visiting tourist spots, travel overseas or even obtain personal bank loans. Their names will be removed from the list if they behave during a prescribed period of time.

The new list of unbecoming behaviour include speaking loudly, spitting in public and queue-cutting.

Expert on Chinese behaviour Wang Xinbin said that most culprits are likely to be less educated and do not consider the impact their misbehavior will have on others. There are further those who have disdain towards their own laws and manage to get away with punishments.

However hopefully the society at large will pick some lessons from the punishments and people who have tendency to break rules will realise the importance of the governments need to take such action and will cooperate in the image building of the country.
