darwinconventioncentre__large-300x141The Darwin Convention Centre is excited to once again be hosting Australia’s premier showcase of contemporary Indigenous art at the 10th Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair, taking place from Friday 5 August to Sunday 7 August 2016.

The world class Darwin Convention Centre, set on Larrakia land that has been used as a
gathering place since ancient times, is a fitting home for the event and this year’s 10th anniversary promises to be a spectacular celebration of colour, creativity and culture.

“We are incredibly proud to be part of the Fair’s continued growth and are thrilled to be celebrating this major milestone with the artists”, says Janet Hamilton, General Manager of the Darwin Convention Centre.

“The Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair is one of our favourite events on the annual calendar. With most of the artists residing in remote locations, the Centre is the ideal setting to showcase the vibrancy and diversity of creative expression in Indigenous art under one roof”.

This year’s program features artist presentations and workshops, fashion show, traditional dance performances, contemporary music plus incredible artwork from 60 Art Centres, who together represent over 2000 Indigenous artists.

“The genuine up-close and personal approach of the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair also makes it a unique cultural event and a major draw-card for international and Australian art collectors and visitors to come and enjoy beautiful Darwin at this time of year. It certainly helps put Darwin on the international map” says Hamilton.
