Darwin Symphony OrchestraThe Territory Government has launched a new tourism campaign putting the spotlight on East Arnhem and the upcoming Darwin Symphony Orchestra performance outside Nhulunbuy.

“East Arnhem Land is one of the last wilderness areas in Australia and offers spectacular holiday activities of 4WD driving, fishing and immersive Aboriginal cultural experiences,” Chief Minister Adam Giles said.

Tourism NT is partnering with Territory Discoveries on the new East Arnhem Land Campaign which has just begun and runs through until the end of the month.

“We want more Australians and more Territorians to come and have a look at this beautiful part of the world for themselves,” Mr Giles said.

The campaign will coincide with the one-off performance of the Darwin Symphony Orchestra at the Garma site, outside Nhulunbuy on 30 May.

This free concert will give visitors a taste of East Arnhem Land while enjoying a world-class musical performance in one of the most remote and unique places in Australia,” Mr Giles said.

“The Government is proud to bring this exciting one-off event to Nhulunbuy as part of our commitment to taking the Orchestra to regional centres.”

The marketing campaign is aimed at showcasing what is on offer in the East Arnhem Region and breaking down known barriers about the destination being “too far” and “too hard” with special holiday sale packages.

“Enticing more visitors to the region will have flow-on benefits for local business such as cafes, restaurants and retail outlets with visitors set to stay in the region for up to 11 days through the holiday packages,” Mr Giles said.

Tourism NT has worked with several local operators in East Arnhem to package accommodation deals with flights from Airnorth to Nhulunbuy. Partners include Walkabout Lodge, Banubanu Wilderness Retreat, Gove Rentals, Gove Sports Fishing and Lirrwi Tourism. Packages for Davidson’s Arnhemland Safari and Venture North will also be offered for sale.

The campaign will consist of press and digital advertisements and will include:

Territory Discoveries press and digital online advertising with links to a dedicated landing page offering sale holiday packages to East Arnhem Land.
Digital advertising on Tourism NT’s consumer website www.travelnt.com  with links to a dedicated page offering sale packages to East Arnhem Land.
A special E-newsletter to more than 60 000 consumers.
Social media advertising.
And extensive trade activity to 2000 travel agents nationally with an agent incentive of a reward for selling Arnhem Land product.

This initiative is part of the Government’s plan to drive the development of North Australia and build a $2.2 billion visitor economy by 2020.
