The Dayton International Airport has more ammunition this week in its bid to lure
travelers from outside the region.
Simply put, flying out of Dayton is cheaper than going to Columbus or Cincinnati.
Average round-trip fares from Dayton were about $370 in the second quarter, a 4 percent
drop compared to a year ago and well below the $377.56 national average, the U.S.
Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics reported this week.
At $518.09 per ticket, Cincinnati was second highest in the entire nation while Columbus
fares came in at $390.23.
That’s good news for the Dayton city-owned airport, which has been working to draw
travelers who might normally book flights from Cincinnati or Columbus. The airport is critical to the Dayton region because it helps facilitate business while pumping money into the local economy.
In the latest report, Huntsville, Ala., had the highest average fare at $547 while Atlantic
City, N.J., had the lowest at $159.
