Delhi Metro workshop to provide better services to visually impaired passengers

121An orientation and mobility workshop on the topic, ‘How to deal with visually challenged passengers’ was organized today for the operations staff of the Delhi Metro with the objective of imparting them with the necessary knowhow of attending to visually impaired passengers.

 

Close to 150 frontline staff of the Delhi Metro comprising of Station Managers, Station Controllers and Customer Relation Assistants (CRAs) attended the workshop. As these officials interact with the passengers at the stations, the workshop was organized so that they are trained adequately to deal with the visually impaired commuters.

 

Experts from the ‘Blind Relief Association’, Delhi conducted the workshop at Metro Bhawan. The workshop was focused on providing orientation and mobility to the visually impaired passengers while traveling by the Delhi Metro.

 

The Delhi Metro already has taken a number of measures to provide comfortable traveling experience to the differently abled commuters. Facilities like ramps, tactile paths, wide AFC Gates, lifts, reserved seats etc are provided to the differently abled passengers at all stations. Attendants with wheel chair facility are also provided to the commuters on prior intimation.

 

All the staff deputed with the task of interacting with passengers are also trained at Delhi Metro’s training institute before assuming charge. They are imparted training on various aspects of customer handling including topics such as dealing with differently abled passengers, providing first aid etc. This workshop was an extension of these initiatives already taken by DMRC.
