delta (1)Delta Air Lines has partnered with KaBOOM! to build a playground at the University Heights Center in Seattle.

It was the airline’s second playground build in the Seattlearea. Last October, Delta constructed its first local playground at Brannan Park in Auburn, Wash.

University Heights marks the third KaBOOM! build for Delta, and two more playground builds are scheduled forMinneapolis/St. Paul in July and Atlanta in October.

“It is at the heart of Delta’s culture to give back and be good stewards in the communities in which we live and work,” said Mike Medeiros, Delta’s vice president – Seattle. “So, as we’ve grown at Sea-Tac, we’ve also grown in the community and partnered with some fantastic organizations, such as KaBOOM! and the University Heights Center, to help make Seattle an even better place where thousands of children have access to facilities that will allow them to be active as they grow into healthy adults.”

At the event, Medeiros surprised attendees when he presented a check to the University Heights Center for$10,000, helping the organization surpass its fundraising goal.

The donation will benefit the Academy for Precision Learning and University District Children’s Center.

More than 200 volunteers, including more than 100 Delta people and many more from the local community, mixed concrete, shoveled mulch, and assembled a new playground structure in just six hours as part of the one-day build.

The new playground – which was exclusively designed from drawings by children in the community – replaces the previous structure, which was older, harder to access and designed only for older children.

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray also attended the event and thanked Delta for its partnership with the city.

Through its Force for Global Good, Delta works to promote an improved quality of life for everyone in the communities it serves.

Delta’s nearly 3,000 Seattle-area employees are part of the fabric of the community, building playgrounds for children in partnership with KaBOOM!, building homes for those in need through Habitat for Humanity, and walking in support of Seattle Pride and the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, among many other projects.
