Derry-Londonderry-Doire Clipper arrives in New York Derry is next stop for the world’s longest yacht race

tourism-ireland1-300x300The Clipper Round the World Yacht race has arrived in New York and with it comes the Northern Irish boat, Derry-Londonderry-Doire. The Northern Ireland Bureau, Tourism Ireland and Invest Northern Ireland are delighted to welcome the boat’s crew to the New York Yacht Club for today’s event and to celebrate the beginning of what will be a spectacular homecoming leg from the big apple to the Maiden city of Derry.

 
The New York stopover marks the end of the penultimate race leg, departing Manhattan on June 7 and it offers an opportunity to profile the fabulous welcome and maritime festival that awaits everyone in Derry. 250 international crew members on the 12 strong fleet of Clipper 70 yachts will be joined by the people of Derry for a weeklong festival from June 21 – 29. This wonderful spectacle will see the city’s famous Queens Quay transformed into a summer promenade with a vintage fairground and a main stage showcasing the best of local and international talent.

The crew of Derry-Londonderry-Doire has been carrying the city’s story around the globe for the last 9 months on what is the world’s longest ocean race. That message is one of positivity and of the fabulous array of wonderful things to see and do in Northern Ireland.

 
Also in attendance at today’s event is Northern Ireland culinary ambassador Noel McMeel. Executive Head Chef at the Lough Erne Golf Resort in Co Fermanagh, Noel is in New York promoting Northern Ireland’s culinary scene which has enjoyed a marvelous renaissance in the last number of years.
