Amadeus-appThe travel software giant, Amadeus, is to develop a mobile application to help promote Europe as a tourism destination.

The VisitEurope mobile app is part of the ‘Destination Europe 2020′ cooperative attempt
between the European Travel Commission and the European Commission aimed at boosting the image of the continent in long-haul markets.

The app will initially be available for iPad in the US market at the end of the year followed by Argentina, Brazil, Canada and Chile as well as a global web version.

According to a statement released, the app will feature Amadeus’s innovative online search
technology that will make travel inspiration and planning processes more appealing to travellers.

That’s quite a statement considering how many destination/guidebook style apps are already available in the market and the challenges in providing relevant content.

Social sharing will also be a feature of the VisitEurope service. Amadeus is already involved in other European projects including an initiative to develop a multi-modal pan European ticketing system with a proof of concept to be unveiled next year. And though they know millions of children are using the site, facebook still allows game applications like sims social, where players are incentivized for having cyber sex, to exist on their site
