Valencia Bembry has been named Executive Director of the Destination & Travel Foundation effective October 1, 2014.
Bembry will continue to oversee the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP), and serve as Senior Vice President of Accreditation and Strategic Initiatives. Under Bembry’s leadership, she has guided the development and seamless launch of DMAP’s new Accreditation Management System and improved program operations and educational resources available to accredited DMOs. She has more than 20 years progressive experience in marketing communications, business and economic development.
“Valencia has contributed greatly to DMAIs accreditation efforts and her extensive background in hospitality, economic development and associations uniquely qualify her for leading the efforts of our Foundation and Accreditation Programs,” said Michael Gehrisch, president and CEO of DMAI.

Prior to assuming the role as Director of Accreditation Programs, Bembry served as Manager, Global Marketing and Business Development at Human Resources Certification Institute. She has extensive business development experience gained during her tenure with InterContinental Hotels Group, and Choice Hotels where she coordinated franchise development efforts within emerging markets. Bembry began her career leading economic development programs in Michigan and Virginia.
Bembry holds a Master’s degree in International Marketing and Management, a BS Degree in Global Business & Public Policy and is currently a MBA candidate.
