If outbound Indian tourists were only 4.4 million in 2000, the number nearly reached 15 million in 2012.
According to expectation of Indian Ministry of Tourism, there would be over 50 million Indians traveling abroad by 2020.
The fact that 2.5 million Indians visit ASEAN every year makes India an important source market of the region, including Vietnam.
Thanks to the warm relationship with Vietnam in addition to big population and various tourist segments (from budget to high-end), India is considered a potential market of Vietnam tourism sector.
Moreover, many similarities in religion and culture would further facilitate the bilateral tourism cooperation.
The opening of direct flights between India and Vietnam is expected to strengthen economic, cultural and tourist exchange between the two countries in the coming time.
