Disruptive Virgin: Not To Scale Teams with One Trick Pony to Create “Brilliant” Animated Film Teasing Upcoming Launch of Virgin Hotels

Published on : Friday, October 10, 2014

Virgin-HotelsVirgin has been cleverly disrupting the travel industry for the last thirty years, so it seems like a natural step for them to get into the hotel business. As the company prepares to open its first hotel in January 2015,

production company and animation studio Not To Scale teamed up with ad agency One Trick Pony to create a delightful animated film showing potential guests just a tantalizing glimpse of what to expect at a Virgin hotel.

“The bar was set high by the in-flight videos created by sister brands, Virgin Atlantic and Virgin America. When we got the brief from Bill and Chad at One Trick Pony, our immediate goal was to not only make something standout, but also differentiate ourselves from the brands previous work” said Santino Sladavic, Managing Director and Executive Producer at Not to Scale. “Chris and the team did a great job and, in my opinion, surpassed that goal.”

While keeping the specific details of the new hotel a well-kept secret, the two-minute Not To Scale film gives intrigued viewers an advance peek at what will make Virgin Hotels different from what’s available in the current hospitality market. Current hotel shortcomings are dramatized and labeled “Unbrilliant” before being countered by the new “Brilliant” offerings of Virgin Hotels.

One visitor is able to control the temperature of his room with his smartphone. Another enjoys the freedom of complimentary wireless access with no bandwidth restrictions. Still another applies her makeup at a particularly spacious table, while a couple overcomes the annoying noise of a hairdryer by closing the doors of one of Virgin’s unique “chambers.” These are just some of the radical changes that Virgin is making to the hotel experience.
