Dubai Unveils Details Of The Dubai Association Centre at IMEX 2014

IMEX-300x211Dubai’s continued evolution into an international business hub was under the spotlight today at IMEX 2014, the worldwide exhibition for incentive travel, meetings and events, which is taking place May 20-22 in Frankfurt, Germany. Among the key developments highlighted by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) was the recently launched Dubai Association Centre (DAC).

A joint initiative by the DTCM, the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), DAC is a legal entity that licenses the formation of associations in Dubai, allowing global bodies access to untapped markets in the Middle East, Africa and parts of Asia. Increased association activity in the emirate will also boost the business events and hospitality sectors by attracting more global conferences and association meetings to Dubai.

The formation of DAC has fostered the emirate’s growth as a global association hub city as it leverages both the emirate’s first-class meetings infrastructure as well as its strategic geographic positioning between existing hubs in Washington D.C., Brussels and Singapore. Although DAC was officially launched earlier this year, IMEX is the first opportunity that global industry stakeholders were able to hear details of its services and strategic importance.

Speaking at IMEX 2014, Steen Jakobsen, the Director of the Dubai Convention and Events Bureau (DCEB), a division of DTCM, said: “Dozens of international associations are keen on utilizing the opportunities presented by Dubai. The Dubai Association Centre is as an ideal platform to help spur growth and will act as a regional springboard for international bodies looking to boost their membership numbers, find new funding opportunities, develop strategic partnerships and establish local and regional chapters.”

To date, approximately 30 international associations are in talks with DAC to operate in the Middle East and the wider region. Out of these associations, 11 are already engaged in the registration process and the centre has already established its first association, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), which is the world’s second largest association with 240,000 members worldwide.

Dubai’s push to increase its international profile at IMEX 2014 comes on the heels of a recent announcement that the emirate seeks to become the world’s most visited city by continually improving its business and leisure offer. Earlier this month, DTCM launched a new logo and brand for Dubai, based on propositions that the emirate is a city that makes the remarkable happen and where experiences visitors have are beyond the expected.
