MTA-RailEastbound PM Service Resumes on Ronkonkoma Branch After Morning Freight Derailment; Customers on Four Westbound Trains Will Be Accommodated by Bus Service; Repair Work To Resume After 9 PM
In order to ensure full eastbound service to Ronkonkoma during today’s PM Peak period, the LIRR is replacing four westbound trains with bus service between Ronkonkoma and Hicksville.

The derailment early this morning of a New York & Atlantic Railway freight car near Brentwood Station has limited train travel to one track through the area. Long Island Rail Road employees have been working during off peak periods to remove the derailed car.
This evening westbound customers at Ronkonkoma, Central Islip, Brentwood, Deer Park Wyandanch, Farmingdale and Bethpage stations will be ferried by bus to Hicksville where they can board trains to resume their trip west.

This will enable the LIRR to fully service the greater number of eastbound travelers heading home from their jobs in Manhattan. But those commuters should anticipate some delays as their trains travel through the work area.

Work on the derailed NY&A car will resume after the rush hour period at 9 PM. At that time, buses will replace trains in both directions between Ronkonkoma and Hicksville until the work is completed. A full safety investigation is underway in conjunction with New York & Atlantic to determine the cause of the derailment.
