easyJet launches new services to Catania from London Luton Airport

easyjet-port-1-300x198easyJet, the UK and London Luton Airport’s largest airline, has announced it will serve a new destination from the airport today to Catania in Sicily, Italy’s largest island.

Catania which lies on the eastern coast of Sicily overlooking the Ionian sea, is one of the offers breathtaking panoramic surrounds of greenery, coastal views and beaches which are dominated by Mount Etna – Europe’s largest active volcano. Catania city – reborn after an earthquake destroyed the city in the 17th century, is a charming mix of grand piazzas, baroque architecture and beautiful historical monuments such as the Dupomo Cathedral and the metropolitan attractions of downtown Catania which is home to the city’s renowned Via Etnea, the area’s shopping capital.

Tourists flock to the nearby beautiful medieval town of Taormina for its stunning views with Siracus, another tourist hotspot further inland, also within easy reach from Catania which Offers visitors a wealth of history and magnificent Greek remains.

Just under 20,000 easyJet passengers are expected to fly between the two destinations each year with the inaugural flight of the new thrice weekly service taking off from London Luton Airport on 30 March 2014.

The announcement comes just one month after easyJet announced its summer 2014 schedule from London Luton Airport with over 1 million seats on sale across easyJet’s network for the period. Catania is the airline’s 40th destination from the airport and fifth Italian route in addition to Milan, Olbia, Pisa and Venice which are also served by easyJet from London Luton.
