AlexandriaIndian tourists are being wooed to Egypt as the country is trying to revive its dwindling flow of foreign tourists by roping Indian celebrities.

Tourism has been slow for Egypt and the economy is suffering due to severe political strife in the country. Continuous military attacks since January 2011 revolution that toppled President Hosni Mubarak turned tourists away from Egypt.

Also the ouster of Mohamed Morsi in 2013 led to attacks that decreased footfalls of foreign tourists in Egypt.

Egypt recently invited the Indian megastar Amitabh Bachchan to its Nile Festival. The response received has prompted Egyptian Tourism to include more Indian celebrities for promoting Egypt to the world particularly Indian tourists.

India is a potential market and Indian tourists are making a lot of outbound travels. Egypt happens to be a favourite destination for many Indian tourists. Ismail A Hamid, Egyptian Tourism Counsellor felt that the percentage on Indians visiting Egypt has considerably improved in the last few months.

Tourism officials are increasing awareness among the Indian travellers about the various destinations in Egypt. Apart from the Pyramids of Giza other destinations like Alexandria, Luxor, Aswan, Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada are also being promoted. India and Egypt have a lot in common. Both countries share a rich past and ancient history felt an official.
