Eight killed in TransAsia plane crashes into Taiwanese river

TransAsiaAt least eight people have died as a TransAsia plane carrying 58 people clipped a bridge and careened into a river on Wednesday morning 04.02.15

 

Ten people were taken to safety as the domestic flight crashed into the river. Rescue team is already alongside the plane and trying to rescue 30 people who are trapped inside the plane.

 

Taiwanese media posted pictures of the plane in the water several dozen meters (yards) from the shore in the Keelung River.

 

The flight from the outlying island Kinmen lost contact with the flight controllers at 10.55 Taipei time. The fuselage landed in the Keelung River near the city’s downtown Sungshan airport.

 

The plane’s fuselage was seen half-submerged in the shallow river, with passengers and rescuers standing on the hull and swimming in the water. The plane is said to hit an elevated bridge

 

The plane was a French-made twin-engine turboprop ATR 72 with a two-pilot air crew.

 

Out of the 58 people there are 53 passengers and five crew members. Thirty one passengers are from mainland China.
