Expo creates special Bond with Scotland

VisitScotland-300x100A group of tour operators from the USA, Russia, Canada, Japan, the UAE, China, Denmark and Germany will be treated to a special James Bond-themed tour of Scotland next week as part of VisitScotland expo 2014.

On the tour, they will visit Glencoe House – a luxury hotel situated in the spectacular Highlands landscape featured in Skyfall, stay in the Isle of Eriska Hotel, close to the Crinan Canal as seen in From Russia With Love and even learn how to mix a Vesper Martini a la Casino Royale.

They will also take a trip to the Cromlix Hotel in Perthshire, now owned by tennis superstar Andy Murray, which has rooms named in honour of Sir Sean Connery, the original big screen 007, and Ian Fleming, Bond’s creator.

As part of VisitScotland expo 2014, the national tourism organisation has organised a series of familiarisation (fam) trips in order to inspire tour operators from around the world to create new or expand existing Scottish holiday packages.

Malcolm Roughead, Chief Executive of VisitScotland, said: “Familiarisation trips are an essential way of fuelling the imagination of overseas tour operators, giving them ideas of how to package Scotland for their customers.

The character of James Bond has a long association with Scotland, from Sean Connery’s first outing in Dr No, right up to Glencoe’s unforgettable appearance in Skyfall.

“Indeed, Ian Fleming was so impressed by Connery’s performance as the world’s most conspicuous secret agent that he even gave the character a Scottish backstory.

Bond is used to the finer things in life and I’m sure he would approve of this luxury tour of his homeland.”

VisitScotland expo, Scotland’s biggest travel trade show, takes place at the SECC, Glasgow, on Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 April 2014.
