Fáilte Ireland today published Tourism Facts 2015, a full report on how tourism fared last year including overseas market performance, regional spread, holidaymaker behaviour as well as information on the domestic market.
Every year Fáilte Ireland collates information from a wide variety of sources (including CSO statistics, Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency numbers and its own surveys) to generate a comprehensive portrait of tourism performance in Ireland to share with members of the industry and its stakeholders.
Speaking today, a Fáilte Ireland spokesperson emphasised:
“This document provides a rich resource for anyone looking for the fundamental facts about tourism in Ireland and is a valuable resource for those who wish to analyse current trends and patterns in the industry.”
Insights in the report include:
• Overseas tourist visits to Ireland in 2015 grew by 13.1% to 8.0 million in 2015, 4.0 million of these trips were leisure holiday visits.
• Expenditure by tourists visiting Ireland (including receipts paid to Irish carriers by foreign visitors) was estimated to be worth €5.9 billion in 2015.
• In terms of spend, Mainland Europe (at €1.6bn) was the largest source market, representing 36% of overseas spend in Ireland.
• In terms of numbers of all overseas visitors Britain remains our biggest source market, accounting for 42% of inbound traffic, although Mainland Europe is (at 40% of visitors) the biggest source for leisure tourists.
