The Falmouth Oyster Festival has won Gold in the Tourism Event category at this year’s South West Tourism Excellence Awards.
“We are extremely delighted to have won Gold recognition at regional level. It is not only good for the festival but for Falmouth and Cornwall as a whole,” said festival organiser Mike Rangecroft. “We strive to be one of the best festivals in England and to win an award at the Excellence ceremony is a fantastic achievement for everyone involved.
The South West Tourism Excellence Awards celebrate the ‘best in the South West’ and aim to promote and reward the leading businesses and individuals in the tourism industry.
The awards night took place at the Eden Project on Friday 8th February, with Malcolm Bell, Head of Visit Cornwall, the Cornwall Development Company tourism service, there to congratulate the winners: “With Cornish tourism businesses achieving such runaway success it highlights Cornwall as being a clear destination leader in the South West. Well done to all the deserving businesses.”
Alongside entries from across the South West region which reaches as far as Wiltshire in the east and the Cotswolds in the north, the finalists underwent a rigorous short-listing process and were visited by mystery shoppers. Up to four Award winners from each category in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards will now go on to represent the region at the National Enjoy England Awards for Excellence in May.
Nigel Carpenter, Proprietor of St Michael’s Hotel & Spa and main festival sponsor says “A well deserved award for a much loved and successful event. We are delighted to support a Gold winning festival that is growing and continues to year on year. We are already looking forward to 2013.”
