Fire in Eastern Oriental Express puts lives of 200 passengers at riskFire in two engines of an international luxury train, Eastern Oriental Express departing from Thailand’s western Kanchanaburi station put the lives of nearly 200 foreign tourists in jeopardy.

 

The passengers were mostly Europeans travelling by the Eastern Oriental Express that departed at 8.20am local time.

 

No one was injured but the fire caused serious damage to the engine.

 

One of the divers spotted heavy smoke coming out of the front engines when the train was about 500 meters from Don Rak station.

 

The drivers stopped the train immediately and disconnected the front engine from the main train. The passenger coaches were later pulled to the nearest Don Rak station by the rear engine.

 

The Eastern Oriental Express is a luxury tourist train departing from Bangkok to Singapore with a stopover at Kanchanaburi for a night.  The train was originally scheduled to return to Singapore tonight.

 

The classic route for the train is the 2,019-kilometer journey from Bangkok to Singapore.
