Catherine Maxwell-Stuart of Traquair House receives the QA gold award from VisitScotland Chief Executive Malcolm Roughead.It was originally owned by the kings of Scotland, and today Traquair House near Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders was once again the location for another gold crown when it was awarded the Four Star Gold Quality Assurance (QA) Award from VisitScotland.
The Bed and Breakfast accommodation, situated within Scotland’s oldest inhabited house, received the award in recognition of its high standards from VisitScotland Chief Executive Malcolm Roughead, who made a special stop-off at Traquair as part of a ‘Listening Tour’ to the Scottish Borders to meet with some of the leading tourism businesses in the region.
Accepting the award was Catherine Maxwell-Stuart, 21st Lady of Traquair, who lives with her family in the stunning ancestral home which was gifted to the 1st Laird of Traquair, by the Earl of Buchan in 1491.
The Four Star Gold B & B grading recognises the extremely high standards of Traquair House’s visitor accommodation at its latest grading. The ‘gold’ part of the QA award represents the continuing attainment of outstanding customer service and hospitality.
Traquair House, which dates back to 1107 and is still lived in by the descendants of the Maxwell Stuart family, is itself graded a Five Star Visitor Attraction in the VisitScotland Visitor Attraction Scheme.
The accommodation was also awarded the Ancestral Welcome in recognition of its appeal to visitors with an interest in ancestral research and it retained its Taste Our Best award for its use of local and quality Scottish produce.
Set in beautiful, romantic countryside and boasting extensive grounds with a maze and a stretch of private fishing on the River Tweed, Traquair House offers three spacious double bedrooms – the Pink Room, the Blue Room and the White Room – all of which are elegantly furnished with antique furniture, canopied beds, private bathrooms, central heating and Wi-Fi.
B & B guests are also able to use the Lower Drawing Room and its residents’ bar in the evenings after the gracious period property has been closed to the public.
