Led by Lars Ulrik Thom, Danish historian and expert in early 20th century Beijing, the tour will wind from the Old City Wall area of Beijing in the Chongwenmen District, through to Dongbianmen, the Fox Tower, before moving on to the city’s former Badlands and the Foreign Legation Quarter.

Lars Ulrik Thom has dedicated the last 13 years of his life to researching the history of China’s capital. He has authored a number of books (both of the guide and academic variety), and, as a fluent Chinese speaker, dedicated his time to interviewing long-time residents, source gathering and carrying out completely original research. His enthusiasm for uncovering the real Beijing is utterly infectious.

Thom’s knowledge of the characters that wove the social fabric of Beijing at the time is unparalleled. Under Thom’s expert guidance, tour participants will visit important historical sites around the city, listening to clues of incredible true stories of a powerful capital city on the edge of collapse in the 1930s including uncovered new evidence in the tale of the investigation of the death of a retired diplomat’s daughter, Pamela Werner.
