On Friday afternoon, flight ST9973 took off for the first time from the British capital to central Germany. Erfurt/Weimar Airport is the ideal starting point for exploring the many cultural treasures and places of interest in the state of Thuringia. The service is operated with Airbus A319 aircraft with space for up to 148 passengers.

The airport is only minutes from the city centre of Erfurt by public transport. The state capital of Thuringia is famous for its historic centre with beautifully restored half-timbered buildings and classical townhouses. Erfurt’s landmark is the unique ensemble of the cathedral and St. Severus Church, where one of Germany’s most attractive Christmas markets is currently to be found. The city’s medieval Merchants’ Bridge is completely built up with houses on both sides and is the longest of its kind in Europe.

Erfurt is only a stone‘s throw from Weimar. This university city is the cultural heart of central Germany, and it is famous for the houses of Goethe and Schiller, the castles Belvedere, Ettersburg and Tiefurt with their magnificent parks, and the Anna Amalia Library, all of which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Weimar is also the birthplace of the Bauhaus art movement. It was here in 1919 that Walter Gropius started the seminal design revolution.

Flight ST9973 leaves from London-Gatwick on Monday at 13:55 and Friday at 16:30 and arrives in Erfurt/Weimar Airport at 16:35 and 19:10 respectively. The return flight departs from ERF on Monday at 17:20 and Friday at 14:55 and lands in the south London airport at 18:10 and 15:45 respectively. The flight takes under two hours. All times are local times.

Oliver Pawel, the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of Germania: “Thuringia is one of the most culturally diverse regions in Germany, and Erfurt and Weimar are two of the most popular German cities for international visitors. We are delighted to be offering passengers from the southern United Kingdom an attractive nonstop service to Erfurt/Weimar.”

Ticket prices for this service start from EUR 59 one-way, and can be booked online at www.flygermania.de, by phone on +49 1805 – 737 100 as well as in travel agencies. All prices are inclusive of taxes and fees and include the compulsory air travel levy.
