Kuala-Lumpur-Convention-Centre1-300x199Close to 44,000ml, or 44 litres, of blood was collected at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s (the Centre) seventh consecutive annual Blood Donation Campaign held at the facility recently.

Organised in conjunction with the National Blood Centre (NBC) and themed ‘safe blood for saving mothers’ in line with World Blood Donor Day 2014 on 14 June, this year’s drive saw participation from 110 donors comprising team members and the public, with a 25% increase in the latter compared with the 2013 campaign.

NBC’s Dr Farah Ahmad Hulaimi said the Centre’s blood drive this year “achieved an impressive 93% of the NBC’s collection target of 100 pints. This is an excellent accomplishment as every drop (of blood) collected counts and helps us reach our weekly target of 5,000 pints. We hope to see more organisations follow in the Centre’s For regular donor S. Susannah Devi who was participating in the Centre’s blood donation campaign for the first time, the initiative deserves applause as “not many companies in the city centre hold community service events such as blood drives.

“The Centre’s convenient location is a massive plus and the ambience is very relaxed and private compared to other public blood donation events that I have attended. I will definitely come back next year to do my bit for society.”
