Glasgow Airport secures CityJet to operate replacement Cardiff service

Published on : Wednesday, January 8, 2014

Glasgow-AirportGlasgow Airport has secured CityJet to operate direct flights to Cardiff just weeks after Flybe announced it would be withdrawing its service to the Welsh capital.

CityJet – part of the Air France-KLM group – will operate its first flight out of Glasgow Airport on Monday 20 January. The service will operate daily, with two flights on weekdays and a third daily flight on Thursdays and Fridays during the summer season. The announcement ensures there will be a seamless transition from Flybe, which will operate its final flight to Cardiff on Sunday 19 January.

Paul White, business development manager at Glasgow Airport, said: “Cardiff has always been a popular business and leisure route for Glasgow Airport, so it was extremely important we reinstated the service. Following the announcement from Flybe, we immediately began working to identify a replacement carrier and we are delighted with Cityjet’s swift response.
“As everyone is well aware, next year promises to be an exciting one for Glasgow and Scotland when we will host events such as the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup. The Cityjet service will provide a crucial economic and tourist link between Scotland’s economic powerhouse and the Welsh capital.”

Christine Ourmières, CityJet’s chief executive, added: “We’re very excited to launch flights from Glasgow to the Welsh capital of Cardiff, and greater Wales with our award-winning service. With our convenient, hassle-free travel and schedule with two daily flights offering ideal flight times for both the leisure and business travellers, we will be providing service the community wants and needs. We are confident that this new service will be a success both for greater Glasgow and CityJet!”
