the German National Tourist Office (GNTO) UK and Ireland is launching a new “GNTO Irish Travel Writers Award” exclusively for the Republic of Ireland in recognition of travel writing excellence by Irish journalists, about travel in Germany. The first awards ceremony, in conjunction with Visit Berlin and the German Embassy, will take place in Dublin on Thursday, 16th October.
The GNTO Irish Travel Awards complement the GNTO’s existing awards scheme for the
UK and Northern Ireland (the “Germany Travel Writers Award”). Klaus Lohmann, Director, GNTO UK and Ireland said: “our existing awards scheme was always open to journalistswithin the UK, Northern Ireland and the Republic; however, with steadily increasing interest in holidays in Germany by visitors from Ireland, a separate awards scheme seems logical to reflect the outstanding work by the Irish travel writers. Our latest visitor figures show yet another rise in overnight stays from Ireland – an increase of 11.7% in the period of January to April 2014, compared to the same period in 2013”.
The first awards will recognise travel features published between January 2013 and August 2014 both online and offline (thereafter the awards will include entries published on a 12 month basis).
