Goa beaches go on a clean drive

Goa1-300x183It’s time for a cleanup of the Goa beaches. The beaches have to be garbage free and the state tourism department has appointed people to clean the seashore. The work will start from today, 01.09.14.

The government has hired private agencies that will clean the beach — a strip of 60 Kms out of the 105 kms stretch has been chosen.

The beaches frequented by tourists will be cleaned at first. The plans for cleaning will start manually now and after monsoons machines will be used to pick up rags from the shoreline.

The cleaning of the beaches will begin only if the NGOs are satisfied with the cleaning and protection of process.

Mechanised cleaning will result in destruction of flora and fauna feel some NGOs.

The government will keep close watch on the cleanliness drive. Two committees formed by the tourism Ministry will certify whether the beaches are clean. Only after a clean chit is given by them will the government clear the bill of the contracted agencies.
