Governor McAuliffe reappoints Rita D. McClenny as CEO, President of Virginia Tourism Corporation

Rita McClenny, Virginia Film OfficeGovernor Terry McAuliffe announced the reappointment of Rita D. McClenny as the president and CEO of Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) on March 21, 2014. As the leader of the state tourism office, McClenny leads the team responsible for marketing the state as a top tourism and hospitality destination as well as promoting Virginia as the ideal location for film and television productions.

 

McClenny has served as president and CEO of Virginia Tourism Corporation since 2012, overseeing the agency’s $25.6 million annual budget and 117 employees. From 1991-2012, Ms. McClenny worked to recruit and expand film production in Virginia as Director of the Virginia Film Office, a division of the Virginia Tourism Corporation. Tourism and film are instant revenue generators for Virginia. In 2012, tourism in Virginia generated $21.2 billion in revenue, supported 210,000 jobs, and provided $1.36 billion in state and local taxes. In 2011, the film industry in Virginia generated $394.4 million in revenue, supported 3,817 jobs, and provided $59.9 million in state and local taxes.
 
Ms. McClenny was born and raised in Southampton County, VA, and presently resides in the City of Richmond. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Fisk University.
