Moscow-Domodedovo-Airport-300x152March 25, 2014 is a significant date in the history of Moscow Domodedovo Airport – exactly 50 years ago the airport operated its first flight.

This was a significant event for the aviation hub of the capital: at the moment, Moscow Domodedovo Airport’s share in the passenger traffic of the Moscow Aviation Hub amounts to 42%.

Today Moscow Domodedovo Airport carried out a special flight operated by Ural Airlines from Moscow to Yekaterinburg (Koltsovo): exactly 50 years ago this route was the first route where a flight from the airport was operated.

Half a century later, Domodedovo veterans and the media representatives became the passengers of the milestone flight.

Guests from the capital arrived at the Koltsovo VIP-terminal, which in 1964 was the main terminal of the Yekaterinburg Airport.

It was here that the first passengers from Moscow were greeted 50 years ago.

“Launching the flight opened a key chapter in the history of Moscow Domodedovo Airport, and the best thing about this is that we have witnessed this outstanding event.

No doubt, over 50 years the air hub has changed dramatically: we can say that Moscow Domodedovo Airport has reached a new, higher level. Moreover, being a passenger of the milestone flight, which is operated from the modern and the largest airport of the country is twice as great because it is the result of work of thousands of the air hub employees, including us.

Congratulations to our colleagues on this milestone date and wishes of further development”, said Ivan Salnikov, Moscow Domodedovo Airport veteran.

Currently, Moscow Domodedovo Airport operates over seventy weekly flights to Yekaterinburg – it is one of the most popular destinations.

For half a century, the route network of the air hub became the largest one in Russia and the CIS.

Today, passengers choosing Moscow Domodedovo Airport have an opportunity to travel to 241 destinations, 86 of which are unique for the Moscow Aviation Hub.

“Moscow Domodedovo Airport celebrates 50 years of flights – it is thousands of takeoffs and landings every day, millions of passengers every year, hundreds of destinations and routes.

Over half a century of its history of air travel to cities around the world, the air hub was quick to gain the altitude and it does not intend to rest on its laurels”, said Igor Borisov, Director of Moscow Domodedovo Airport.

The first flight in 1964 allowed Moscow Domodedovo Airport to open the world of travel for millions of passengers: over 50 years the air hub carried more than half a billion people.

Over half a century, Domodedovo has never stopped developing, increasing the terminal area, introducing unique technologies, ensuring a comfortable stay for passengers and visitors.

Working with leading carriers, including leading Star Alliance and oneworld members, Moscow Domodedovo Airport is becoming the most popular airport in this country: in 2013, more than 30 million people used Moscow Domodedovo Airport services.

Dynamic development and high quality of services of the air hub are honored by the most prestigious international awards.
