Heathrow Community Fund, funded by the airport, has donated a minibus and £25,000 to one of its key local charities, Green Corridor.Green Corridor, which helps disadvantaged young people, in West London, volunteer and gain qualifications in both horticultural and conservation, put in a grant request for a mini-bus to the Heathrow Community fund earlier on this year.
The airport charity group accepted the request and donated the bus to the charity.
Chairman of the Heathrow Community Fund, Steve Ronald said, ‘Heathrow Community Fund is proud to be donating a much needed mini-bus to Green Corridor. This is a perfect example of the fund’s aim to help support and strengthen local communities close to the airport. We look forward to hearing about all the projects they’re now able carry out using this new transport for their volunteers.’
Green Corridor’s Chief Executive, Jean Rolfe said: ‘From all of us here at Green Corridor, I’d like to say a big thank you to Heathrow Community Fund for donating a minibus to us. The bus will be incredibly useful in allowing our young people to connect with new places, people and projects. It will enable us to broaden their horizons, generating new and exciting opportunities for the young people we work with.’
Heathrow Community Fund is part of an independent grant-making charity set up by Heathrow to support and strengthen local communities close to the airport. In the past two years it has donated more than £1 million through its three grant schemes. Funds come from an annual donation from the airport, spare change from airport passengers donated in the terminals and fines imposed on aircraft that breach noise limits.Airport staff have volunteered alongside young people from Green Corridor on a range of projects local to Heathrow, including the Manor Way Allotment project in Southall.
