malaysian-airlineAnother Malaysia Airlines plane avoided a crash on Wednesday when one of its engines suddenly caught fire.

The pilot of this domestic flight immediately switched off the affected engine and turned back to Subang Airport for an emergency landing.

No one was hurt in the incident.

The incident occurred as the aircraft climbed to about 7,000 feet (2,334 metres) soon after it took off at 7.30am.

The plane was boarded mostly by the members of the Terengganu football team who were returning home after winning a match.

The crew took very fast action and constantly suggested the passengers not to panic. All the passengers were later transferred to another flight for Terengganu.

Malindo, which was set up one year ago, says the plane was on its way from Subang Airport near Kuala Lumpur to Terengganu on Malaysia’s east coast when the aircraft’s fire detection system was activated.

The scare comes as Malaysia searches for the wreckage of a Malaysia Airlines jet that went missing on March 8 with 239 lives on board. Officials have confirmed the plane, en route to Beijing, went down in the southern Indian Ocean, but efforts at locating the plane or any debris from it have failed so far.
