Looking for something fun to do after Derby Day? May is the ideal time to take in the city’s top places to play, stay and eat. The best part? You can do it at a reduced rate.
Louisville’s Hometown Tourist Celebration, under way May 5-31, encourages local residents to be a tourist in their own hometown. This year, 77 area attractions, hotels and restaurants are offering deep discounts for anyone with a valid Kentucky or Indiana ID, local college ID or military ID.
Held each year in conjunction with National Travel & Tourism Week, Louisville’s month long Hometown Tourist Celebration has been going on for more than a decade.
“We are living in National Geographic Traveler’s Best of the World Destination for 2013,” said Karen Williams, President & CEO of the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Hometown Tourist Celebration is the opportunity to rediscover the city that everyone is talking about – your hometown, Louisville.”
In addition to special offers, the Hometown Tourist Celebration includes several free events:
Tuesday, May 6: 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Hometown Tourist Celebration Kick-Off Press Conference and Attraction Showcase at 4th Street Live with Mayor Greg Fischer and other special guests. Entertainment, food, fun, giveaways and more. Three dozen local attractions will be on hand passing out information and answering questions.
Tuesdays, May 6, 13, 20 and 27: 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Sidewalk Sale & Open House at the Louisville Visitors Center, corner of Fourth and Jefferson streets. Stop by for deals on Louisville souvenir items, free food samples, entertainment and more.
Saturdays, May 10, 17 and 24: Between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Hometown Quest Scavenger Hunt. Organized by the Louisville Quest, it’s a part race, part scavenger hunt, part historical, sightseeing tour through downtown. Meet at the Louisville Visitors Center, Fourth and Jefferson streets.
