The Civil Aviation Department (CAD) is committed to maintaining a safe, efficient and sustainable air transport system in Hong Kong, ensuring that Hong Kong adheres to and upholds among the most rigorous levels of safety guidelines in the world. As a local, Hong Kong-based airline that obtained its licence according to recognised aviation safety and security standards, Hong Kong Airlines has always put flight safety as its top priority. Every single flight is operated under full compliance with the aviation industry, the CAD and the international standards set by Hong Kong-approved aircraft maintenance requirements.
The reported incidents have been classified as posing the lowest level of risk level possible in the flight safety field as pointed out by the CAD. They occurred as a result of adverse weather conditions, similar call signs (speedbird) and other factors, each one was swiftly detected and rectified, and none caused any threat to flight safety. External factors commonly result in minor execution errors in the daily operations of airlines all over the world. Hong Kong Airlines deeply regrets the exaggerated and inaccurate presentation of the incident.
All airlines, including Hong Kong Airlines, operate in accordance to the requirements of Hong Kong’s CAD. Regarding each of these incidents, Hong Kong Airlines reported immediately to CAD. The CAD strictly inspects each airline’s operations regarding aviation safety and monitors any improvement, ensuring that all airlines comply with the stringent rules of aviation safety. For the highlighted issues, Hong Kong Airline has submitted an improvement plan and executed it. We will continue to operate in compliance with aviation safety standards, to provide the public with safe and comfortable flights.
Hong Kong Airlines is an international company that operates in accordance to the safety rules of the CAD and objective assessments of the quality, experience and other factors of the pilots to ensure that each and every pilot is fully qualified before recruitment. We will never discriminate against a pilot’s nationality or region of origin. Currently, Hong Kong Airline’s pilots hail from over 30 countries around the world, including America, England and Australia. All pilots that succeed the rigorous recruitment process, which includes hiring, training, several inspections and checking their communication skills, are fully competent and hold all of the relevant requirements.
