Hong-Kong-tourismHong Kong has been voted the Best City for Business Events (formerly known as Best City for MICE Events) for the third consecutive year, and Meetings and Exhibitions Hong Kong (MEHK) of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) was named one of the best convention bureaus, according to the 2013-14 readers’ poll conducted by CEI Asia, a leading magazine in the corporate events industry in Asia.

In addition, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) and AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) grabbed the first two places, respectively, in the Best Convention Centre category.

HKTB Chairman Dr Peter Lam said the Best City for Business Events title was testimony to the contribution of the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) industry as a whole. He said he was glad to see MEHK, a division of the HKTB, listed among the best convention bureaus for the first time, which was a tribute to the HKTB’s dedication. He also extended his warm congratulations to the HKCEC and AWE for being selected as the top two convention and exhibition centres this year.

Dr Lam said, “These accolades demonstrate that Hong Kong is the World’s Meeting Place for MICE industry. The city’s superlative accommodations and business facilities, together with its highly effective transport and telecommunications networks, allow business travellers to enjoy their stay with a diversity of experiences.” He said he looked forward to working even more closely with the MICE industry to strengthen Hong Kong’s position as a world-class business city.

This year saw a number of large-scale conventions and exhibitions in Hong Kong, including the USANA Asia Pacific Convention, Art Basel Hong Kong, Watches and Wonders, and BlackBerry Jam Asia. According to HKTB statistics, total overnight MICE arrivals in the first 10 months in 2013 increased 1.8% to 1.309 million, among which 586,000 (+3.1%) were from the Mainland. Arrivals from long-haul markets also recorded 1.9% growth to 340,000.

CEI Asia has been an authoritative magazine in the travel trade over the past 13 years, offering a thorough source of information for corporate clients and event planners. The results of the annual readers’ survey, covering the views of corporate clients and venue users, are used to award industry accolades.
