The Hawai‘i Tourism Authority (HTA), the state’s tourism agency, has released a request for proposals (RFP) to seek a contractor to organize,
facilitate and promote the HTA’s annual Mahina Mele: Celebration of Hawaiian Music in May. The HTA welcomes submittals from qualified, experienced, and capable organizations who can develop and cultivate a successful month-long celebration of Hawaiian music and dance, with the ability to expand into a self-sustaining, statewide event.
Consistent with the HTA’s Hawaiian Cultural Initiative, Mahina Mele: Celebration of
Hawaiian Music aims to create events that will connect visitors and communities; highlight the state’s musical heritage and local artists; enrich Hawai‘i’s cultural offerings; and stimulate renewed interest and travel to the destination, particularly during the shoulder season.
The HTA will select a contractor that is determined to be the most qualified to efficiently
manage and maximize the impact of this program. The HTA will take into consideration
multiple factors including: applicant qualifications in event and program organization
services including event promotions, ticket sales, revenue generation, contracting artists
and facilities and the establishment of intellectual properties; applicant’s ties to local media
entities and industry stakeholders; and the quality of the applicant’s marketing and
management proposal. The HTA’s evaluation committee will take these and other factors
into consideration in accordance with the evaluation criteria set forth in the RFP.
This RFP is for a three-year contract, which will commence on September 15, 2014 through July 31, 2017. The HTA intends to award the contract for this RFP in September 2014.
