Hugh L. Carey Tunnel Closed Sun., Sept. 25 for the Annual Stephen Siller Tunnels

MTA-RailThe Hugh L. Carey Tunnel will be closed Sunday, Sept., 25 from 7:45 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. for the 15th annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run, commemorating the FDNY firefighter’s run through the tunnel to the World Trade Center on 9/11.

 
One tube at the tunnel will be closed from 10 p.m. Sat., Sept. 24 through 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25. There will be one lane open in each direction in the remaining tube until both tubes are closed at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday. Furthermore, starting at 7 a.m. on Sunday, there will only be access to the Manhattan–bound HLC from the Gowanus Expressway. There will be no access from local streets.

 
Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.
The charity run/walk begins on the streets in Red Hook, goes through the tunnel and ends across from the World Trade Center site. The Tunnel to Towers Run retraces Firefighter Stephen Siller’s footsteps and honors those who died on 9/11.
