IFA’s Lobbyist Selected to TRENDS 2013 Leading Association Lobbyists for Work on Healthcare and Immigration Reform

IFA-300x161International Franchise Association lobbyist Jay Perron has been included as one of Association TRENDS 2013 Leading Lobbyists for his efforts as part of the organization’s aggressive pursuit to change the definition of a full-time employee from 30 to 40 hours, while also promoting strong safeguards for an employment verification system as part of any comprehensive immigration reform effort.

“Advocating on behalf of the industry is a true privilege,” said Perron. “Our franchisees are creating jobs in every congressional district and we take pride in trying to provide both our franchise small-business owners and franchisor members a strong voice in Washington, to help give them every opportunity to succeed.”

Perron and the IFA Government Relations and Public Policy team have worked relentlessly to educate lawmakers that the definition of a full-time employee under the ACA is unworkable for small business franchise owners. IFA has supported legislation (Forty Hours is Full Time Act) introduced by Dan Lipinski (D-IL), Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-IN) as well as the Save American Workers Act introduced by Rep. Todd Young (R-IN), which would change the health-care law’s 30-hour work-week definition to the more traditionally used 40 hours.

“Jay has been a strong and consistent voice on all issues and priorities for the 825,000 franchise establishments across the country,” said IFA President & CEO Steve Caldeira. “Jay and the government relations and public policy team continue to help educate Congress and the administration on the needs of the small business community that are most important to their continued success.”

In addition, Perron has advocated that any comprehensive immigration reform effort should include market-based availability of essential workers and a robust low-skilled visa program.
