Innovative Tourism Initiative – Melbourne

Published on : Wednesday, October 9, 2013

TTF-australiaA quirky digital initiative aims to inspire and engage potential visitors to Melbourne, allowing them to “go before they go”, according to peak national industry body Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF).

Melbourne Remote Control Tourist allows visitors to instruct the Remote Control Tourists – two women and two men – via Twitter and Facebook on what to explore in Melbourne allowing them to see parts of the city before they go.

TTF Chief Executive Ken Morrison said this is a great example of using technology to promote tourism.

“Tourism is increasingly relying on digital channels to reach consumers and this initiative is a highly unusual method of engaging people online to inform them about what Melbourne has to offer,” Mr Morrison said.

“It allows people to see the city and visit the kinds of places they might like to go themselves.
“Not only is a clever marketing exercise that is sure to garner significant attention in the mainstream media, it also delivers Tourism Victoria with a huge amount of terrific original content that can be re-used to promote Melbourne in the future.

“It’s increasingly difficult to get cut-through in a crowded global tourism marketplace, so projects like this that have a unique element are extremely valuable to ensuring your destination stays top of mind when people are making their travel decisions.

“Tourism Victoria and the Victorian Government are to be congratulated on this unique creative project.”

Melbourne Remote Control Tourist runs from today, Wednesday 9 October, until Sunday 13 October.
