“It Begins Here” is the theme for San Francisco Travel Association’s 104th Annual Luncheon on Thursday, June 19

San-Francisco-Travel-300x161More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the 104th Annual Luncheon of the San Francisco Travel Association on Thursday, June 19, at Moscone West, 800 Howard St., San Francisco. The annual event is the largest gathering of San Francisco’s tourism industry, a major economic engine for the City.

 
“Our theme, ‘It Begins Here,’ celebrates all of the innovation, creativity and energy that emanates from San Francisco,” San Francisco Travel President and CEO Joe D’Alessandro said. “It also refers to our mission of enhancing the local economy by marketing San Francisco and the Bay Area as the premier destination for conventions, meetings, events and leisure travel. When we come together as an industry, an association and a city, we begin to create opportunities for all of us.”
 

2013/2014 Board of Directors Chair Mariann Costello, vice president of Scoma’s Restaurant, will present the achievements of the past year and pass the gavel to incoming 2014/2015 Chair Stephen Revetria, vice president and general manager of Giants Enterprises.

 
The Silver Cable Car Award will be presented to United Airlines, which has served San Francisco International Airport since 1934, operates more than 50 percent of all flights at the airport and currently has more than 10,000 employees in the Bay Area. This award is given each year to an individual or organization that has made significant contributions to San Francisco’s travel industry. Previous Silver Cable Car Award winners include the San Francisco Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Armistead Maupin and Carole Shorenstein Hays. The award was inaugurated in 1965.

 
The American College of Surgeons will be honored with the Crystal Bridge Award, which acknowledges top convention customers for their clarity of vision and commitment to bringing their events to San Francisco. Previous awardees include Salesforce.com, Oracle, American Geophysical Union and the American Bar Association.
 

The San Francisco Travel Foundation’s 2014 John A. Marks Scholarship will be presented to a local outstanding university student preparing for a career in the hospitality industry. The scholarship is named for the former president John A. Marks who headed the association for 19 years.
 

The event begins with a networking reception at 10:30 a.m., followed by the lunch and program at noon until 1:45 p.m. Individual tickets to San Francisco Travel’s 104th Annual Luncheon are $175 and may be purchased at www.sanfrancisco.travel/partners/104th-Annual-Luncheon.html.
