JetBlue-Airways-LogoJetBlue Airways, New York’s Hometown AirlineTM, today announced its support for several of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s initiatives that benefit New Yorkers, including the Governor’s effort to lead one of the first state trade missions to Cuba in the next 45 days.

As the largest airline to the Caribbean and an experienced charter operator to Cuba, with service since 2011, JetBlue applauds the Governor’s effort to develop opportunities for New York companies by organizing a trade mission to the country.

The airline also supports Governor Cuomo’s focus on modernizing New York City’s John F. Kennedy International and LaGuardia Airports to enhance travelers’ airport experience and to improve transit access to the airports.

“The Governor’s vision for shaping responsible economic development with Cuba and investing in a world-class travel experience for New Yorkers are two important efforts to help our home state compete on the world stage,” said Robert Land, senior vice president government affairs and general counsel, JetBlue Airways.

JetBlue began its successful Cuba charter service more than three years ago and has built up valuable operational experience since then which positions it well to expand its services as soon as permissible by law.

Today, JetBlue operates three charter flights from the U.S. to Cuba:

Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Havana (HAV)
Tampa (TPA) to Havana
Tampa to Santa Clara (SNU)

JetBlue is interested in providing additional service to Cuba from multiple U.S. cities as soon as legally permitted. JetBlue’s continued expansion in the Caribbean and Latin America, where one third of its network is operated, reflects the company’s network growth strategy in high-value geographies.

“The strength of our existing charter program has provided us a strong foundation for future expansion in Cuba,” said Land.

“As the operator of the largest network to, from and within the Caribbean, we look forward to the opportunity to bring JetBlue’s distinctive award-winning experience to even more locations in the Caribbean.”
