Jetstar launches first low fares flights from Melbourne to the Red Centre

JetstarJetstar’s Melbourne to Ayers Rock Airport (Uluru) service is proving to be a hit with the inaugural flight JQ 664 departing Tullamarine at full capacity.
The introduction of the route has seen Jetstar become the first low fares carrier to offer flights between the destinations.

Jetstar Australia and New Zealand CEO David Hall said the royal visit in April had helped put Australia’s most iconic natural landmark back in the limelight.

“We’ve seen a really positive response from travellers since we announced these flights in March and bookings remain strong,” Mr Hall said.

“There’s no doubt this direct service, with a flight time of just over three hours, will make holidaying at Uluru a more attractive proposition for Victorian travellers.

“Previously, Victorians wanting to visit Uluru had to either travel on a chartered flight or via Sydney where the journey could take up to seven hours.

“With the shorter travel time our direct service provides, we’d expect to see more Victorians taking the opportunity to visit the spiritual heart of Australia for a short break and this is great news for domestic tourism.”

The launch of Jetstar’s newest domestic route comes as the low fares carrier also increases frequency on Sydney-Uluru services from four times weekly to daily.

“We’ve seen a steady increase in demand on our Sydney-Uluru services since we launched flights last year and we’ve added more than 1,000 seats a week in response,” Mr Hall added.

“We’ve always said that we’ll move decisively to take advantage of any increasing demand and this is just another example of this principle in action.”
Return flights from Melbourne will operate each Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday with a flight time of three hours and 20 minutes.
